(HAL) achieved a significant landmark on World Environment Day by
completing the task of planting over 2.5 million (25 lakh) saplings
spread over various locations in Bangalore. Last year alone, HAL
under the Go-Green campaign, planted over 1 lakh teak saplings to
fulfil its commitment towards Corporate Social Responsibility.
The 25-lakh target was achieved after several years of
sustained effort and HAL’s Bangalore Complex facilities undertook
this massive operation towards enrichment of ecology and protection
of environment. Today, HAL’s efforts to make its facilities and
surroundings go green and clean have helped Bangalore immensely to
live up to its image as the Garden City.
In addition to this, HAL has also taken up several
afforestation missions including development of parks, development
and maintenance of nurseries and landscaping besides energy
conversation measures, rainwater harvesting, recycling of waste
water, incinerator plant for disposal of waste, and biogas plants
among others.
Among the species planted include: teak, silver oak,
rosewood, bamboo, mohagray, acacia, neem, peltoform, eucalyptus,
mango, tamarind, jackfruit, casuria, Ashoka, jacaranda and gulmohar.
“We have been giving top most priority to tree plantation in all
units under Bangalore Complex. The green cover is being constantly
improved with fresh plantations every year,” Mr A.K. Saxena,
Managing Director, Bangalore Complex, HAL said.
HAL has also taken measures to arrest the decline of
groundwater table and improve groundwater by promoting rainwater
harvesting at its units. HAL is also the recipient of the
prestigious Indira Priyadarshini Vriksha Mitra Award instituted by
the Ministry of Environment and Forests for afforestation and
environment activities. |
