The
HAL-Dornier 228 is an aircraft of rugged construction with high
structural strength.
It has a rectangular cabin with unobstructed floor area of 9 .6m2.
The utility version incorporates a wide entrance door with a low
sill for fast loading of stores and cargo.
Rapid turn-around, minimum maintenance, high cruise speed and
STOL capability in hot-and- high conditions allow versatile logistic
support and utility operations.
It can accommodate upto 21 field equipped troops on fold-up seats.
Also a full CASEV AC load can be transported at maximum cruise
speed of 850 nautical miles.
With
a primary structure having an expected service life of at least
62,500 flights without major repair, the HAL-Dornier 228 can be
employed for round-the-clock logistic support operations.

The aircraft's uncluttered cabin space, long search time on station,
high wing configuration and very safe low operating speed (84.7
KCAS at flaps 2) make this a cost effective solution for special
missions.
