The HAL-Dornier 228 is an aircraft of rugged construction with high structural strength.

It has a rectangular cabin with unobstructed floor area of 9 .6m2. The utility version incorporates a wide entrance door with a low sill for fast loading of stores and cargo.

Rapid turn-around, minimum maintenance, high cruise speed and STOL capability in hot-and- high conditions allow versatile logistic support and utility operations.

It can accommodate upto 21 field equipped troops on fold-up seats. Also a full CASEV AC load can be transported at maximum cruise speed of 850 nautical miles.


With a primary structure having an expected service life of at least 62,500 flights without major repair, the HAL-Dornier 228 can be employed for round-the-clock logistic support operations.

Executive version

Versatility of the HAL-Dornier228 design enables the aircraft to be easily adapted for numerous tasks namely flight inspection and calibration of ground based navigation and communication aids, geophysical exploration missions and photogrammetry.

The aircraft's uncluttered cabin space, long search time on station, high wing configuration and very safe low operating speed (84.7 KCAS at flaps 2) make this a cost effective solution for special missions.
