Well-equipped support facilities have given a fillip to the
core competence of the Foundry & Forge Division. No wonder,
the Division is perhaps one of the few companies in the world
to manufacture high quality castings and forgings - all under
one roof.
Complementing the Division's comprehensive infrastructure
is its manpower of skilled and experienced workmen and highly
qualified engineers. The Division spares no effort to impart
professional and technical training to constantly update their
skills and capabilities.
Product Engineering
This customer-driven full-fledged and well-equipped Engineering
Department, with its highly qualified and experienced professionals,
acts as a functional interface between our customer and manufacturing
departments, rendering technical support. The department is
also responsible for process optimization and trouble shooting
to ensure total and consistent conformance of quality of products
to customer specifications.
Tooling
The Division's Forge Tool Room is equipped with a three axis
CNC machining centre, electrical discharge machines with
digital displays, copy mailing machines and die-optic
projector for in situ correction of dies with precision
aerofoil or such other shapes. In addition, the Division has
a number of conventional milling, turning drilling and surface
grinding machines. This shop specialises in the manufacture
of close tolerance precision forging dies for which all major
and crucial operations are carried out in-house by skilled
workforce. The combination of men and machine - the technology
of CAD/CAM adapted and applied by the well-trained
hands of experienced personnel - naturally results in precise
dimensional accuracy of dies. At the Pattern Shop, complicated
and large metallic patterns for investment castings and wooden
patterns for sand and gravity die castings in aluminium and
magnesium alloys are manufactured.
Heat Treatment
The two Heat Treatment sections, one each in the Foundry
and Forge shops are equipped with electrically heated furnaces
(up to 2.2 metres diameter size) with advanced temperature
controllers and recorders for a range of heat treatments from
solutionising and ageing to hardening and tempering, besides
annealing and normalising. Among the other facilities are
1 m diameter * 1 m depth vaccum heat treat future
with gas quenching facility and argon atmosphere furnaces
for heat treatment under inert atmosphere.
Surface Treatment
The Division has excellent facilities for Surface Treatment
necessary for intermediate processing stages as well as for
protection before final supply. These include chromating
treatment for magnesium alloy castings, sand blasting
of both castings and forgings, lanolin protective coating
of all forgings prior to supply, anodising of aluminium
alloy components and abrasive blasting and vibratory
finishing of precision forgings.
