Welcome to the Avionics Division, Korwa of Hindustan Aeronautics
Limited.
Concurrent with
the induction of the Jaguar Aircraft into Indian Air Force, the
Government of India decided to update the Cockpit System with latest
generation equipment for navigation and display. The Government of India
entered into a collaboration agreement with British Aerospace, UK on 12th
April 1979 for the license manufacture of Jaguar Aircraft, for the
requirement of the Indian Air Force. It was decided to manufacture this
Aircraft and its aggregates. As the Jaguar Aircraft is fitted with
advanced avionics like inertial navigation and weapon aiming systems, it
was decided to set up a new factory for manufacture of advanced avionics
systems under Accessories Complex. The Government on 4th Sept. 1982
accepted HAL's proposal for setting up a self-contained new unit for
taking up production of the Navigation Display and Attack System for
Jaguar Aircraft. The Government of India approved setting up of a new
factory at Korwa, Dist. C.S.M. Nagar in Uttar Pradesh. The Korwa is an
underdeveloped area approximately 130 kilometers from Lucknow on
Rae-bareily - Sultanpur Road.
|
Subsequently, the
Indian Government entered into a protocol agreement with USSR on 19th
March 1982 for the manufacture of Bahadur Aircraft and its aggregates.
The State Government acquired 282.4 acres of land and handed over the
same to HAL on 26.11.82 for the construction of factory and township complex.
The Bhumi Puja was performed on 3.1.1983 and the foundation stone was
laid by then Prime Minister, late Smt. Indira Gandhi on 26.2.83.

The Civil
construction started on 15th June 1983. The Production activity of
the Division at Korwa commenced on 15th November 1984 with the
construction of Manufacturing, Assembly, Process Shops and Services
Block. The complex was formally inaugurated by then Prime Minister, Late
Rajiv Gandhi on 3rd April 1986.
Recently The
Government of India has entered into protocol agreement with Russian
Government to manufacture of SU-30 MK1 Aircraft. The Navigation and
Sighting Complex OEPrNk-30MK-03 of this aircraft are being manufactured
at Korwa.
The Division of
HAL, has been built in a pollution free environment sprawling over
approximately 1 million sq.mts. of lush green area including complete
amenities for a residential complex. The total covered area for
manufacturing is around 38000 sq. mts.
